Lotus on Water to offer Scholarships to Outstanding Southern College Students

Southern College's President Dr. Thock Kiah Wah hopes the scholarships will enable students to work towards the betterment of society

Singapore--Media OutReach--22 March 2012 -- Renowned Singapore Feng Shui Master Yun Long Zi, founder of Lotus on Water, a Singapore Feng Shui business entity, recently led a delegation to Southern College of Malaysia on 13 February 2012 to discuss plans to offer scholarships to the college's top students.

The Yun Long Zi scholarship will be awarded to two outstanding students who not only excel in academics, but also in co-curricular activities. Priority will be given to students in the Chinese Department. Recipients of the Yun Long Zi Feng Shui scholarship will each receive a full tuition grant, along with a $500 monthly allowance and $1,000 annually to cover their textbook and material fees.

The delegates were greeted by Southern College's President Dr. Thock Kiah Wah, Vice President Law Heng Neng, Director of Student Affairs Mr Phang Loon, Sim Mow Yu Chinese Teaching and Training Centre Professor Hao Zhiben, and Sim Mow Yu Chinese Teaching and Training Centre Deputy Director Teoh Seok Ai.

Dr. Thock said, "When we met one year ago, Master Yun and I discussed a number of initiatives, of which one of them was this scholarship. I am glad that we have developed this scholarship together and our students will appreciate the benefits that the scholarship will provide."

The college was founded with the help of Singapore's Nanyang University, and to remain true to its Chinese origins, Chinese teachings are applied to all levels of study.

Master Yun said, "Southern College of Malaysia is where Chinese heritage thrives. I was eager to pursue this partnership because I felt that Southern College was Malaysia's first private Chinese-funded institution, and believe that in the near future the Malayan Chinese Federation will establish the first university funded by Chinese businesses."

Applications for the Yun Long Zi scholarship will start in the second semester of 2012. Applications close on 2 April 2012.

Southern College is in the process of upgrading its status to become a full-fledged university. Dr. Thock hopes that the upgrade will be completed by the end of 2012.
